On August 12, Ethiopia became the focal point for Africa’s banking and fintech leaders as the 29th Connected Banking Summit & Innovation & Excellence Awards kicked off in Addis Ababa.
The event, held at the Ethiopian Skylight Hotel, gathered top executives, regulators, fintech pioneers, and cybersecurity experts from Ethiopia and the broader East African region. Organised by the International Center for Strategic Alliances (ICSA), the summit focused on accelerating the digital transformation of Ethiopia’s financial sector.
Under the theme 'Building Digital Financial Systems and Accelerating Banking Modernization in Emerging Markets,' the conference offered a dynamic space for collaboration and sharing ideas on how to expand access to secure, innovative banking services. This year’s event also marked the Silver Jubilee of the Connected Banking Summit series, highlighting its ongoing role in connecting global banking professionals.
Ethiopia's financial industry is undergoing rapid changes. Regulatory reforms and fintech developments are driving a shift toward more customer-focused, tech-driven banking solutions. The summit provided a platform to address these shifts and to strategize on next steps.
Key discussions revolved around topics like digital banking transformation, upgrading core banking systems, and implementing real-time payments. These conversations aim to shape a future where banking is not only modern but also inclusive.
The event reflects Ethiopia’s ambition to become a hub for financial innovation in Africa as it modernizes its banking infrastructure and policies.
