Consensys denied reports that user data or funds were compromised after a security incident involving a contractor linked to North Korea.
The individual, known under the alias "Tyler Knapp" and GitHub username imyugioh, worked as a third-party consultant on MetaMask’s core codebase from March 9 to early April 2026. Their contributions focused on fiat on-ramp and off-ramp features of the wallet.
Consensys acted promptly upon identifying the risk, suspending all product launches and revoking the contractor's access.
The company initiated a thorough internal security audit and informed law enforcement agencies about the breach.
In a statement on X, Consensys clarified the incident, emphasizing that no malicious code was deployed and that no customer assets, data, or user safety were affected.
"Our investigation confirmed no impact to user funds, data, or security," Consensys said, reassuring its large user base.
