Cloudflare and OpenAI have initiated a pilot program aimed at enhancing AI search capabilities through real-time web activity data. Announced on July 8, 2025, this collaborative effort seeks to determine if live network signals can improve the speed and accuracy with which AI systems access and process online information.
The partnership leverages Cloudflare's extensive internet infrastructure along with OpenAI’s advanced AI and search technologies. According to Cloudflare, over 20% of all websites operate through its platform, providing insights into website updates, changes, and traffic patterns that could be instrumental for AI models seeking up-to-date content.
Real-Time Data Usage
Matthew Prince, Chief Executive of Cloudflare, emphasized the potential for these network signals to make AI searches more efficient, thereby enhancing the quality of responses users receive. OpenAI is contributing its AI models, search systems, and actual search queries to assist in this pilot. Nick Ryder, OpenAI’s Vice President of Research, noted that timely information is critical for generating precise answers, and the pilot will evaluate if network insights facilitate faster content discovery.
Expanding Collaborative Efforts
This initiative builds upon a previous partnership between Cloudflare and OpenAI. In August 2025, Cloudflare was one of the first companies to support OpenAI's open-weight models through its Workers AI platform. The relationship was further deepened in April 2026 with the launch of Agent Cloud, an enterprise solution utilizing OpenAI’s GPT-5.4 and Codex models to empower businesses in deploying AI agents effectively.
Rohan Varma, the product lead for OpenAI Codex, highlighted the primary focus on creating AI agents that are applicable in real-world scenarios. The announcement of this new partnership had a positive effect on the market, leading to a 7% increase in Cloudflare's stock prices.
Linking AI with Web3 and Crypto
Cloudflare is also expanding its interests in AI by introducing its Monetization Gateway, which incorporates a stablecoin payment method for services related to websites, APIs, datasets, and AI access. This expansion aligns with growing expectations for decentralized computing networks, particularly as Cloudflare continues to offer infrastructure and security services tailored for cryptocurrency networks.
As the demand for decentralized computing rises, related projects such as Akash, Render, and io.net are likely to see increased interest from investors. In this evolving landscape, Cloudflare's strategic focus on AI complements the ongoing developments in Web3 and cryptocurrency.
