The move arrived this week through a partnership with Kinexys by JPMorgan, letting approved institutional investors transfer fund shares directly between wallets on Ethereum while the official shareholder register stays locked in traditional infrastructure.
The launch spans 15 markets and touches six different fund buckets: ICS Euro Government Liquidity, Sterling Government Liquidity, U.S. Treasury, Euro Liquidity, Sterling Liquidity, and U.S. Dollar Liquidity. Each on-chain token represents actual ownership of the underlying fund share. Settlement happens near real-time through smart contracts. BlackRock structured it so the blockchain layer handles movement and transparency while JPMorgan's platform bridges everything back to the fund's transfer agent system, avoiding the need to rebuild the entire fund infrastructure from scratch.
The timing stacks with BlackRock's broader tokenization sprint. Earlier this week the firm rolled out two blockchain-based money market products stateside, but those focused narrowly on stablecoin reserves and Treasury liquidity. This European play targets something wider: treasury management, digital collateral deployment, and other institutional use cases that need both yield and on-chain flexibility. The $311 billion figure as of June 30 shows these aren't experimental buckets. Real money sits here. Institutions get the ability to move capital between wallets instantly without settlement delays, while the fund itself continues operating under existing regulatory frameworks.
