A Bitcoin wallet that remained inactive for eight years suddenly transferred 5,908 BTC, currently valued around $383 million, according to blockchain analytics from Arkham.

History of the Wallet's Holdings

The wallet initially acquired the Bitcoin stack when prices were near $16,000 in 2017, marking the value at approximately $99.63 million at the time. Despite Bitcoin fluctuating significantly in the following years, the address remained dormant. The price dropped to about $3,000 in 2018 and then surged to a cycle peak of approximately $69,000 in 2021, yet no movement was recorded. The wallet stayed inactive even during Bitcoin's brief dip to $15,500 in November 2022 and the all-time high of $126,000 reached in October 2025.

Recent Movement and Implications

On Thursday, the whale transferred the entire Bitcoin amount to a new wallet address. The destination is an unmarked wallet rather than an exchange, indicating there was no immediate sale. This transfer to a newer address format might suggest an update in custody arrangements or steps toward private transactions. Large holders like this often reposition assets without triggering immediate selling pressure in public markets.

Bitcoin's price at the time of writing is $63,800, down more than 1% over the past 24 hours.
