Bitcoin's stuck in a tight spot. On-chain analyst Axel Adler flagged a warning that's got traders watching their screens: if BTC drops below $61,500, selling pressure could snowball fast. The cryptocurrency's been clinging to the $60,000 level for weeks now, but the technical picture just got messier.
Adler dug into the BTC UTXO stress indicator, and the numbers tell an uncomfortable story. The metric just crossed 71.58, pushing back into high-stress territory. That means a huge chunk of Bitcoin holders are sitting on losses, and the pressure's mounting again. A year ago, this same indicator hovered around 41, reflecting a much calmer market. The weekly momentum flipped positive at plus 3, signaling that stress is creeping back in after a brief reprieve last month.
Two scenarios, two very different outcomes
Adler laid out the math. If the indicator drops below 70 and momentum stays negative, the selling pressure eases. But the dangerous path is clear: if BTC breaks below $61,500 and the stress indicator climbs above 90, capitulation could accelerate, dragging prices lower still. Bitcoin's short-term fate hinges on whether it can defend these support levels and what the on-chain data shows next.
Meanwhile, a massive options whale just made a bold bet against any rally. The investor dumped $173 million in Bitcoin call options, betting the price won't touch $70,000 before September 25th. If Bitcoin stays below that strike at expiry, the whale pockets a $3.03 million premium. Go higher, and the losses pile up. It's the kind of big money positioning that usually catches everyone's attention, and right now it's screaming caution.
