Up to $5 billion. That is AMD's equity commitment to Anthropic under a deal that also covers tens of billions of dollars in AI server sales, making it one of the chipmaker's largest single commercial agreements to date.
The hardware at the center of the arrangement is AMD's Instinct MI450 AI server line, with deliveries scheduled to begin in the first half of 2027. The investment is milestone-linked, so AMD's equity stake will grow only as Anthropic hits specific deployment targets, a structure that ties AMD's exposure directly to how fast the startup scales its infrastructure.
Anthropic's current valuation stands at roughly $170 billion, backed heavily by Amazon. Market pricing, however, is already pricing in a far more aggressive trajectory: prediction markets currently assign a strong probability that the company's valuation reaches $1.25 trillion by December 31, 2026. That figure is seven times the present reported valuation, a gap that reflects the pace at which big-ticket deals like this one are reshaping expectations around frontier AI infrastructure spending.
For AMD, the commercial upside is as significant as the strategic one. Nvidia has dominated AI accelerator revenue for the past two years, and a multi-year, tens-of-billions server contract with one of the most-funded AI labs in the world represents a concrete dent in that lead, not just a proof-of-concept win.
