Validators of the XRP Ledger (XRPL) are set to begin voting in about two weeks on a critical update package that introduces multiple new features and improvements.
The upgrade proposal includes support for batch transactions, which allow users to group multiple transactions together. Confidential Transfers will hide transaction amounts while maintaining the ledger's transparency and security. also sponsored fees and reserves will permit third parties to cover transaction costs for users.
Other enhancements in the upgrade include permission delegation, enabling users to assign specific permissions without giving full account control, and dynamic Multi-Purpose Tokens (MPTs) that improve token functionality on the ledger. The package also contains a bundled bug fix and substantial performance optimizations aimed at improving node efficiency and network reliability.
Security Delays and Governance Discussions
Development of these features was paused due to ongoing security initiatives but has now resumed, according to prominent XRPL validator Vet, who described the package as a balanced mix of performance boosts, new capabilities, and fixes.
Alongside the upgrade vote, discussions continue regarding the reserve requirements for activating accounts on the XRPL. Historically, these reserves have been lowered several times, from 1,000 XRP in the early days to the current base reserve of 1 XRP. Vet expressed opposition to further reductions under present conditions, citing the importance of storage and memory as valuable network resources amid growing demand.
These protocol changes could significantly affect transaction efficiency and user experience on the XRPL, potentially accelerating adoption and integration possibilities.
