Crypto lawyer Bill Morgan has identified the escrow mechanism associated with XRP as its most significant feature, essential for its ongoing success as an asset.

Morgan argues that understanding this escrow is fundamental for users to appreciate XRP's stability and growth potential. He stated that Ripple's implementation of escrow within the XRP Ledger serves as a prime example of how it has helped stabilize the asset's market price and reassure traders regarding Ripple's responsible distribution practices.

XRP Escrow Status

According to data from XRPScan, approximately 32,444,984,760 XRP is currently held in escrow, which is part of a larger total supply of 99,985,640,485 XRP. The circulating supply stands at 67,526,296,210 XRP.

Escrow Dynamics Over Time

In a recent analysis, Morgan noted the downward trend in XRP held in escrow as Ripple has been unlocking 1 billion tokens each month. A year prior, nearly 36% of XRP was retained in escrow, but this percentage has since decreased to below 32.5%. Ripple's decision not to re-lock around 300 million XRP monthly is expected to further reduce this figure, with projections suggesting it could drop to under 29% by July of next year.

Network Upgrades and Milestones

The XRP Ledger is nearing a significant milestone, as nearly 1 million agent transactions have been processed through its x402 facilitator. Furthermore, the ongoing fixCleanup3_2_0 amendment, which includes critical bug fixes and improvements to Single Asset Vaults, the Lending Protocol, and other features, has achieved a 40% consensus in voting. This amendment requires an additional 40% to reach the 80% activation threshold.
