xAI introduced Grok 4.5 as a sidebar within Excel, enabling users to generate live formulas, edit cells, and create charts directly in spreadsheets without manual copying. The add-in operates transparently by citing exact cell references and producing explicit change logs during complex tasks.

Installation proved straightforward: users can add Grok directly from x.ai/grok/excel and connect it via their Microsoft account. The integration requires a paid SuperGrok, Heavy, Business, or Enterprise plan, with usage limits depending on the tier. Basic Grok subscriptions do not include this feature.

Grok reads only user-selected ranges, preserving data privacy by avoiding scanning entire workbooks. For example, when asked why revenue dropped in Q3 compared to Q2, Grok analyzed the relevant data ranges and pinpointed the exact cells responsible for the change, allowing immediate verification of its output.

This tool differs significantly from prior AI spreadsheet assistants, which often require users to copy AI-generated formulas manually. Grok writes formulas live inside the sheet, fulfilling the promise of a genuine in-sheet AI agent. xAI confirmed availability through the Microsoft Marketplace for organizational deployment.
