Three Missouri men face up to 20 years in prison after federal prosecutors charged them with conspiracy to rob a Connecticut home of stolen Bitcoin. Sedric Louis, John Davis, and Martel Williams each drew one count under the Hobbs Act following their involvement in a failed 2024 plot connected to a massive crypto theft.
The case roots back to Veer Chetal's theft of 4,100 Bitcoin, worth roughly $245 million. That heist triggered a kidnapping in August 2024 near Danbury High School, where Chetal's parents were abducted. The three Missouri defendants were brought in to execute a home invasion and force the occupant to transfer the stolen coins into wallets controlled by the plot's coordinators.
According to prosecutors, the crew drove to Connecticut over four days in late August 2024, rented vehicles, and gathered air rifles and walkie-talkies. They spent two days surveilling their target and his parents. Then they bailed. Security cameras spooked them, and they couldn't reach their co-conspirators. A different team from Florida attempted the robbery instead.
Adam Iza and six Florida men tied to the kidnapping have already pleaded guilty. Two received 11-year sentences. The Missouri defendants pleaded not guilty. U.S. Attorney David X. Sullivan announced the charges Tuesday.
