Robinhood (HOOD) shares surged over 3% in premarket trading to $118.60 following upgrades from two major Wall Street firms, Morgan Stanley and Barclays. The upgrades reflect the growing anticipation regarding Robinhood's latest initiatives in blockchain technology.

Morgan Stanley increased its price target for HOOD from $95 to $124, maintaining a buy rating. Analysts at Morgan Stanley noted expectations for brokers and exchanges to report Q2 earnings above consensus estimates, driven by increased trading volumes and market volatility. Meanwhile, Barclays also raised its target price from $82 to $122, emphasizing strong trading momentum on the Robinhood platform and its evolution beyond traditional retail brokerage services.

The stock's ascent continues a trend that has seen its value rise approximately 40% over the past month. It closed on Thursday at $115.11, gaining 1.39%, although trading volume remained below the 30-day average of about 32 million shares.

Robinhood's Innovative Blockchain Strategy

The recent analyst upgrades coincide with Robinhood's aggressive push into the crypto and blockchain realms. On July 1, the company introduced around-the-clock tokenized stock trading in over 120 countries, simultaneously routing perpetual futures contracts through the decentralized exchange known as Lighter. This initiative enhances Robinhood's competitive positioning in the market.

Central to this strategy is the launch of the Robinhood Chain, a Layer-2 blockchain network built on Arbitrum. This new infrastructure has quickly garnered attention, surpassing Hyperliquid in 24-hour decentralized exchange volume. Within days of its launch, the total value locked (TVL) on Robinhood Chain reached $100 million. This positions Robinhood directly against Solana, which currently dominates over 95% of the global tokenized stock trading market.

Competitive Landscape and Future Implications

Solana, recognized for its speed and low transaction fees, currently holds a significant share of the tokenized stock market, boasting $568.1 million in tokenized equities. However, Robinhood's vast customer base of 28 million users across 38 countries may provide it with a strategic advantage that is not easily replicable. Solana's on-chain real-world assets saw substantial growth in early 2026, further intensifying competition in this rapidly evolving sector.
