Revolut has enhanced its crypto trading platform, Revolut X, by integrating AI assistants such as Claude and Gemini, enabling users to trade cryptocurrencies using simple text commands. This new feature allows users to manage their portfolios, set alerts, and place orders without needing to access the app directly.

With this integration, users can interact with over 300 available tokens on the platform, making crypto trading more accessible. The capabilities include requesting portfolio summaries, accessing live market data, and placing both market and limit orders through natural language inputs.

Technical Foundation and Development

The inception of this project was a swift experiment by Revolut engineers, who successfully linked Claude to the Revolut X API within 30 minutes. This initial test not only established a functional market-making workflow, covering crucial aspects like inventory management and alerts but also demonstrated the potential of AI in enhancing trading processes.

The underlying technology is powered by Anthropic’s Model Context Protocol (MCP), which was released in November 2024. Additionally, Revolut has made a GitHub repository available, supporting over 50 AI applications, allowing users on various platforms to utilize the service through a command-line interface.

Leonid Bashlykov, head of crypto product at Revolut, emphasized the benefits of AI agents in providing faster workflows and improved execution, thereby facilitating a more integrated trading experience.

User Interaction and Requirements

Users can experiment with their trading strategies by simply describing them in plain language. For instance, requesting a backtest of a Bitcoin grid strategy over the last three months will yield relevant historical performance data and optimization results.

Furthermore, users can set up notifications via Telegram to alert them when a cryptocurrency reaches a specific price, streamlining the process without manual interventions. However, it is important to note that users must manually approve every order before it is executed, as Revolut does not take any liability for potential errors stemming from the AI tools.

The crypto services on Revolut X are offered by Revolut Digital Assets Europe Ltd., which is licensed by the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission under the EU MiCA regulations. As of now, Revolut boasts over 75 million retail customers, with more than 16 million engaging in crypto trading.

Broader Industry Context

Revolut is not the only company venturing into AI-enhanced trading solutions. Recently, Gemini announced its own integration of Claude and ChatGPT for user accounts, marking it as a notable development in the U.S. crypto exchange landscape. Other companies, including Liquid and Robinhood, have also begun to explore AI-driven trading functionalities further, indicating a growing trend across the industry.
