Morgan Stanley's stock rose by 0.42% to $223.06 following the announcement by its infrastructure unit, Morgan Stanley Infrastructure Partners (MSIP), of exclusive negotiations to acquire a majority stake in the French environmental services company Nicollin Environnement.
This acquisition aims to enhance MSIP's portfolio in waste management, street cleaning, and water infrastructure across France. Nicollin serves approximately 360 public contracts and around 8,000 private clients nationwide, marking a significant expansion for MSIP in essential services.
Key Details of the Acquisition
The transaction, facilitated through MSIP's private infrastructure platform, will allow the Nicollin family to retain a minority stake in the company. Both parties are actively engaged in concluding the deal, which is expected to finalize in the fourth quarter of 2026, subject to necessary approvals and consultations.
Nicollin provides diverse environmental services, including waste collection, sorting, water management, and sanitation, supported by a workforce of about 4,800 employees and a fleet of approximately 2,900 vehicles. The company operates out of multiple local centers and owns essential infrastructure such as sorting facilities and depots, which contribute to reliable environmental service delivery.
Investment and Environmental Goals
After the acquisition, MSIP plans to collaborate closely with Nicollin's management and family shareholders. A focus on operational enhancements, fleet renewal, and increased investments is anticipated. One of the significant goals of this strategy is fleet decarbonization, aiming to lower emissions while boosting efficiency across Nicollin's various operations.
With a heritage tracing back to 1945, the Nicollin family has established strong local ties, which complement MSIP's aim to invest in Europe's growing infrastructure landscape, particularly in initiatives associated with the circular economy and municipal services.
