A wallet flagged by on-chain tracker Lookonchain shifted 1,030 Bitcoin worth $66.14 million on Wednesday. No sale confirmation yet, but the move lands just days after Strategy disclosed it had already dumped 1,638 BTC the week before. The pattern is starting to look less like random shuffling and more like a steady drain.
The Math Behind the Moves
Strategy sold those 1,638 coins at an average of $63,957 each, netting roughly $104.7 million. That knocked holdings down to 842,138 BTC, still worth nearly $54 billion at current prices, but noticeably lighter than before. The company is burning through reserves to fund preferred dividends and stock buybacks. In Q2 alone, those obligations hit $400.7 million. Doing the math, Strategy is selling Bitcoin below its own $75,419 average cost basis just to cover shareholder payments.
Michael Saylor, the company's executive chairman, has pushed back hard on the dump narrative. He claims this is basic corporate housekeeping, not a loss of faith. "When I say 'Never Sell Your Bitcoin,' I speak as one saver to another. I have never sold mine. Not one satoshi. Strategy is a public company, not my wallet," he said in a statement. Fair enough, but the distinction matters less to traders watching the balance sheet shrink week after week.
The Miner's Shuffle
Bitcoin miner MARA threw another wrench into the conversation by moving 6,000 BTC worth $384.6 million to Two Prime in a single five-hour window. Lookonchain was careful to note this might not signal a sale at all, just portfolio rebalancing. MARA holds equity in Two Prime and regularly allocates coins to their strategies. But the company's track record complicates the story. Back in March, MARA offloaded 15,133 BTC to retire $1 billion in convertible debt. The miner still holds 36,303 BTC, valued around $2.34 billion, so it's not abandoning the asset class. Just managing it aggressively when the pressure mounts.
Strategy's next weekly filing will settle whether Wednesday's transfer was a genuine sale or just a custody move. Until then, the whale watching game continues, and every large movement gets parsed for hidden meaning.
