An international operation has uncovered a cryptocurrency wallet processing over $122 million connected to romance scams. This discovery forms part of Interpol’s Operation First Light 2026, which spanned 97 countries, including the United States.
The operation led to the arrest of a 20-year-old suspect in Thailand, who reportedly controls the massive wallet. The funds were moved frequently through cross-chain swaps to conceal their origins, highlighting how criminals exploit digital assets.
Operation First Light Highlights Global Efforts
During the enforcement sweep, authorities arrested 5,811 individuals and intercepted $293 million connected to fraudulent activities. The investigation identified more than 142,000 victims globally, showcasing the pervasive nature of these scams.
