A 20-year-old man assaulted a South Korean investment YouTuber in Busan, reportedly seeking revenge for substantial financial losses. This incident occurred amidst a 9% plummet in the KOSPI index, marking the seventh-largest drop in the history of the South Korean stock market.

The assailant, identified only as “Mr A,” was apprehended by police on suspicion of attempted murder after he stabbed the 40-year-old YouTuber, known as “Mr B,” repeatedly in the face on July 13. Mr A had been subscribing to Mr B's investment channel and based his financial decisions on the advice he received, which ultimately led to significant losses.

The attack coincided with a turbulent trading day, where notable stocks like SK Hynix and Samsung Electronics sank 15.4% and 10.7% respectively. This drastic value loss erased previous gains, particularly for SK Hynix, which had only recently debuted in the US market.

Consequences of the Market Crash

According to reports from Bull Theory, margin calls affected approximately 1.2 million retail investors in South Korea on the same day. Between 320,000 and 360,000 of these accounts faced full liquidation, leading to significant financial repercussions, including some individuals incurring debt to their brokerages.

Details regarding the specific investments made by Mr A remain unclear, as authorities are currently investigating the circumstances of the attack and the motivations behind it. However, Mr B's injuries are reported to be non-life-threatening.
