L&C Bio shares jumped nearly 12% Thursday after announcing a treatment for "Ozempic face" using donated human fat. The KOSDAQ-listed stock hit 64,600 won intraday, extending a five-day rally of roughly 24% as investors spotted a new revenue stream beyond the company's existing skin care products.
The Market Problem Gets a Solution
GLP-1 drugs like Ozempic work fast. Patients shed weight quickly, but some develop a gaunt, hollowed facial appearance in the process. L&C Bio wants to fill that gap literally. The company's planned product, tentatively called MegaAdipoECM, converts donated human fat into a scaffold that patients' own cells repopulate, restoring volume without synthetic fillers.
The addressable market keeps expanding. J.P. Morgan Research forecasts the U.S. patient base for GLP-1 drugs will climb from 12.9 million in 2026 to 30.3 million by 2030, split between type 2 diabetes and obesity patients. Each new obesity patient represents a potential customer for facial restoration. The product could also serve as an alternative to silicone breast implants, widening the market well beyond Ozempic users alone.
L&C Bio already pioneered donated human tissue in Korean beauty products with its flagship Re2O line, which uses donated skin for wrinkle treatment. The new booster applies the same tissue-donation model to volume restoration instead.
Regulatory Win Turns Waste Into Gold
South Korea classified donated fat as medical waste until 2026, blocking any commercial use. Regulators reclassified it that year, but a one-year grace period means L&C Bio won't launch commercially before late 2027. The wait hasn't cooled investor appetite. The company already holds patents in South Korea, the United States, and China, the three markets it plans to target first. That protection transforms a waste product into a low-cost raw material for a global aesthetics business built around GLP-1-era demand.
CEO Lee Whan Chul noted the company "pioneered the use of donated human tissue in K-beauty skin boosters," positioning L&C Bio as the natural player to scale this model globally. The patent moat and regulatory advantage arrived at precisely the moment when demand for Ozempic face fixes is accelerating.
