Four million dollars in bets on where Stephen Curry plays next. That's what Kalshi pulled in within weeks of launching its Warriors star market in late July 2026, right as NBA trade chatter hit fever pitch. Current odds put the chance of Curry staying put or hanging it up somewhere between 84% and 94%. Real traders with real skin in the game showed up.
The platform holding the CFTC license is no longer just a sports betting curiosity. Kalshi launched crypto perpetual futures on Bitcoin and Ethereum back in June, and those contracts burned through $1 billion in notional volume in their first week alone. Deposits now cap at half a million per transaction. In July the platform plugged into Talos, an institutional trading desk, giving professional money direct access to both event contracts and crypto perpetuals through one interface.
Betting on Solana, not just dollars
Back in December 2025, Kalshi shipped tokenized versions of its event contracts onto Solana. The bet was obvious, pull in crypto natives who care about on-chain settlement and composability instead of waiting for fiat transfers. There's even a KALSHI pre-stock token trading on Solana now, letting speculators get a piece of the company before it goes public.
This two-track approach matters. Polymarket operates in legal limbo for US users. Kalshi has its designated contract market license from the CFTC. By offering tokenized contracts alongside traditional settlement, the platform is trying to serve everyone, crypto traders get on-chain access, institutional desks get compliance. It's a workaround that could stick.
The regulatory gap nobody's talking about
Clarity on Kalshi's fiat side doesn't automatically shield its tokenized products. The on-chain version of an event contract lives in murkier regulatory waters. Binary outcomes tied to real world events behave nothing like price derivatives, which means the SEC, CFTC, and state regulators might all have opinions. For investors building positions in these contracts, that ambiguity is the real risk, not whether Curry re-signs with Golden State.
