On July 16, France's National Gambling Authority mandated local internet providers to block access to Polymarket, following unsuccessful measures to restrict transactions on the platform. Despite earlier geo-blocking attempts and a warning issued in November 2024, French users continued accessing this unauthorized betting service.

The authority's latest intervention aims to prevent domestic users from participating in prediction markets deemed illegal under national laws. The website's geo-restrictions proved insufficient as users bypassed them to place bets, triggering the regulator's stricter enforcement.

This step signifies an escalation in France's regulatory efforts to control online gambling platforms operating without authorization in the country.
