Why Manual Verification Was Broken
Until now, ESMA's license register existed as downloadable files. A compliance officer or cautious trader wanting to verify a platform's credentials had to download spreadsheets, hunt for the right entry, and cross-reference it against the specific services they cared about. The data was public. It was just unusable at scale. The MiCA Crypto Alliance built this tracker specifically to close that gap, pulling directly from ESMA's official register and repackaging it into a browsable interface that works like any normal search tool.
The timing matters. Unauthorized crypto providers were required to stop onboarding new EU clients as of July 1, 2026. That regulatory deadline made license verification urgent for consumers and businesses alike, not just a compliance checkbox.
What You Can Actually Find
The tracker lets you search by company name, country, national regulator, authorization date, and the specific crypto services a firm is licensed to offer. That last filter is critical because authorization isn't one-size-fits-all. A company cleared for custody is not automatically allowed to run a trading platform or execute client orders. MiCA regulation covers ten distinct services, including custody, exchange operations, trading, advice, and portfolio management. A firm might hold a license for two of them, not all.
ESMA's own interim register remains the official source of truth and updates weekly. The most recent data was dated July 31, 2026. The CASP Tracker pulls from that same source but makes it queryable without the friction.
