Coinbase plans to introduce tokenized stocks to Canadian customers later this month as part of its Everything Exchange expansion, combining crypto and traditional financial products on one platform.

Eric Richmond, CEO of Coinbase Canada, explained that the company is working closely with Canadian regulators to extend beyond crypto trading and offer a full financial experience powered by blockchain. The first phase established a regulated crypto exchange, while the next phase will enable Canadians to manage multiple financial assets smoothly in one app.

The tokenized stocks will represent direct ownership of the underlying shares, providing investors access to dividends and shareholder voting rights, distinguishing them from synthetic alternatives.

Coinbase’s Everything Exchange strategy also includes products like AI investment advisors, stock options, prediction markets, pre-IPO investments, and stablecoin-based payment solutions expected to enhance cross-border transactions.

Richmond emphasized that blockchain technology has potential to upgrade the current financial system by making it more frictionless and accessible 24/7.
