Bitcoin Japan, a Metaplanet subsidiary, launched its crypto treasury by dedicating over $4 million to buy Bitcoin, capitalizing on lower prices during the market downturn. The Tokyo-based company secured 9.66 billion yen ($59.5 million) in funding through a convertible bond agreement with EVO Fund on July 20, 2026.

Bitcoin Japan will use part of the raised funds, approximately 662 million yen, for its initial Bitcoin acquisition. The company engages in media, data, and events to foster Bitcoin understanding in Japan and support the global ecosystem.

Metaplanet, publicly traded and inspired by Nasdaq-listed Strategy (formerly MicroStrategy), holds a substantial Bitcoin reserve acquired since 2024. Their treasury contains roughly 43,000 BTC valued at about $2.8 billion, though their stock has dropped over 50% this year.
