At WebX Asia in Tokyo on July 13, Animoca Brands co-founder Yat Siu presented a sharp vision for the future of AI and ownership. He argued that as AI agents begin to act independently booking flights, managing subscriptions, and striking deals the question of who owns the data and economic value they generate becomes key.
Siu envisions a future where these agentic AI systems operate with their own crypto wallets and ownership frameworks. Without this infrastructure, the benefits created by AI agents risk flowing entirely to centralized platforms rather than to users. He predicts somewhere between 50 and 100 billion AI agents could exist soon, vastly outnumbering the human population.
Animoca Brands’ Experimental Approach
Animoca is already putting these ideas into practice through an internal division called Animoca Minds, which runs hundreds of AI agents. Siu's panel on "AI, IP, and the Future of Policy" tied these ownership concerns directly to intellectual property and regulatory debates, highlighting the broad implications for the tech ecosystem.
This discussion follows other major shifts in AI-related markets, echoing trends like the recent demand for AI skills affecting job markets and tech sectors globally.
